While India was celebrating its
new-found independence, the Carmelite Sisters of St. Teresa
sought to fill a lacuna in women's education. Thus began Mount
Carmel College on the 7th of July 1948 with just fifty
students on its rolls. A single building housed the
classrooms, office, hostel, library, convent and the chapel.
Thatched sheds served as labs as the college set forth to
fulfill its vision. By the end of the year its number had
dwindled to just 32 students and one could only smile in
disbelief when K.C.Reddy, the then Chief Minister of Karnataka
said, ''A day will come when this college will have to turn
away students.''
MCC has come a long way since that day in July 1948. Today, we
have a beautiful campus with many buildings and facilities.
The courses have proliferated and every year the college
receives an overwhelming number of applications from students
all over the country. In fact, MCC is home to over four
thousand students. The college keeps pace with the changing
times exploring new possibilities and expanding new horizons
and continues to make a difference through its vision of
empowering women through education Offering PUC BA BSC MSC
